Southern cuisine isn't too abundant in NYC, so it was a true joy to dine at the new 33 Greenwich recently- guess where? 33 Greenwich Ave (not street!) in the West Village. From the team behind the solid Midtown joint The Upsider, and chef Anne Thornton, 33 Greenwich is Southern perfection.
Start with the Fried Green Tomato with herbed buttermilk, spring bean, and radish. Or maybe the Lil' Gem Salad with smoked black eyed peas (genius), cornbread croutons, and ricotta salata. Both fresh and delicious!
If you're with a group, you might want order the large Veal Chop or the flavorful Fried Chicken. But the dish not to miss, is the Dry Aged Meatloaf Burger with mushroom and caramelized onions, gruyere, tomato jam, and fries. It's outstanding.
And to satisfy your sweet tooth, don't skip out on dessert. 33 Greenwich has that staple Southern Coconut Cake and Banana Pudding. Both are sweet perfection.
