Major Food Group, the team behind Torrisi Italian Specialties, Parm, Carbone, and Dirty French, has opened up their latest joint directly under the Highline in the Meatpacking District. It's called Santina, and is a coastal Italian restaurant..I like to think of it as Carbone Light. Also, it's quite good.
It's a beautiful, light filled space, with large glass windows overlooking Washington Street..The chandeliers are lovely too, it's light and airy, and pleasant. The food is delicious too. Start with any of Santina's Cecina, which you can scoop onto their homemade chickpea crepes. My Calabrian tuna, lamb tartare, and avocado trapanese was all fun and delectable.
One of Santina's stand out dishes is their Squash Carpaccio. It's awesome and magical!
Another great vegetable dish, is a main course called Eggplant Sesamo, it's quite good.
For pasta, spaghetti blue crab and chitarra Satina is fine and dandy, but nothing too cray.
What you must order though, at the end of your meal at Santina, is their tricolore cannoli. They are made to order, filled with maraschino cherry, coconut cream, and pistachio. And, they are the #best in NYC.
