I went to an amazing restaurant last week. It's small, with not too many tables. The restaurant is not in Manhattan..Not techincally in Brooklyn either, its address lies just outside of Bushwick, in Ridgewood, Queens. It's called Bun-Ker, it's a mini-adventure to get to, but you will be rewarded with one of the most magical culinary adventures of your life. Serving delicious Vietnamese food, they call "Street to Table", it's fun, it's low-key, relaxed, and wonderful.
One of the best dishes in NYC is Bun-Ker's Traditional Ban Xeo, crispy vietnamese crepe, shrimp, bacon, egg, bean sprout, and served with lettuce. After one bite you will be in heaven like I was. A soft-shelled crab special with corn, tickled my tongue with joy. Was Bun-Ker's sauteed water spinach with garlic and chili the best spinach dish I ever ate? Yes. Their grilled Heritage pork was sublime. #Perfection. A curry bobo chicken with lemongrass, organic local carrots, potatoes, and rice hit every note of delightfulness. Short rib, shrimp, scallop, over vermicelli, was pure greatness.
After each bite at Bun-Ker, my dining companion and I looked at each other and smiled. We found a culinary gem, worth the trip, where magic is happening.
