Chef Nick Morgenstern and Chef Bobby Hellen have transformed what was once GoatTown, into GG's, a homey and chill pizza spot, serving some delicious pizzas, over-baked pastas, and other delectable bites. The place just opened a two weeks ago, and I've been twice, because of the great vibe, great food, and killer desserts!
Lets start with their pizza though. GG's pizza dough is made with a wild yeast starter and baked in a classic New York style deck pizza. My Grandma Pie was really good, square slice perfection. And what I loved even more, is GG's 1986 pie. Spicy sopressata, fennel agrodolce, pickled peppers, anise hyssop. Sweet, Spicy, Delicious, and #fuckingawesome.
There are three oven baked pastas on GG's menu, of which I've tried two. Both are tasty as can be, and have a homeyness to them, that is to say they are very comforting. Stuffed agnolotti comes with sofrito, sorrel, and crispy lamb. #perfection. Luna, comes with pork sugo, heirloom onions, lemon ricotta, and garden herbs. #fab
When dining at GG's you MUST order one of Nick Morgenstern's desserts. Morgenstern, who earlier this Summer opened up our city's best new ice cream parlor, Morgenstern's Finest Ice Cream, is serving that ice cream at GG's, and then some. The brownie sundae I had, topped with Madagascar vanilla ice cream, was the best brownie sundae I ever ate. It's incredible. Order it. The Ice cream cookie sandwich is also stupendous. My first time, it came with salted caramel ice cream, the second, that Madagascar vanilla. Served in between two wonderful chocolate chocolate chip cookies. It is heaven. Order it!
GG's is that neighborhood restaurant that you want to keep coming back to. The place you want to be a regular. I already am. I'll see you there for some pizza and a sundae real soon.
