Another day, another Michael White restaurant. After the opening of last month's fabulous Costata, Chef White and his Altamarea team have opened up The Butterfly in Tribeca. Deemed a "Cocktail and Supperclub", what The Butterfly is, is a cocktail bar with awesome food. I stopped in last night, their first day opened, and loved every bite and sip.
This place is really a place for cocktail guru Eben Freeman to showcase his skills. Order one of his fantastic cocktails to get your night going. I started with his Highball, Michter's Rye, and Smoked Coke. That's right that coke was "smoked". And that is awesome my friends.
I wouldn't expect anything less than amazing food at any Michael White establishment. The Butterfly does not disappoint. Their Buttermilk Fried Chicken ($23), 3 pieces of Bell & Evan's chicken, coleslaw, cheddar biscuit, honey butter was solid and downright awesome. That crunchy and flavorful skin. That tender and juicy meat. It was fried chicken perfection. Oh, and that biscuit? It was a work of art. The lightest biscuit I've had, even flaky, with a delicious touch of honey. Was it the best biscuit I've ever consumed? Yes. (I could have done without the coleslaw, it wasn't that good)
Oh, and do not skip the Butterfly Patty Melt ($17). Why? Because it's fucking awesome. That's why. 6 oz. dry-aged beef patty, fried onions, Swiss and American cheese, caraway rye. Yes, please. I don't eat patty melts often, but this has got to be the best in NYC. Pure Greatness.
You can pair that patty melt with a shandy, a Summer ale mixed with raisin soda. That's right folks, The Butterfly makes their own raisin soda. Ingenious.
Great cocktails? Check. Great food? Check. What more can you ask for? Another winner has been born. See y'all there soon. I'll buy the first round.
