BBQ in NYC is coming on strong as of late. In the past, to get good barbecue in NYC, you had to travel to Texas, or North Carolina. Well, those days are behind us folks. There has been a BBQ boom in our great town (Hill Country, Mighty Quinn's, BrisketTown, etc,) and it doesn't seem to be losing steam. My dish of the week, is also my pick for the best brisket in NYC. Have I tried all the brisket in NYC? Hell no! But, I can tell you this, it is impossible for any brisket to be better than the brisket served up at Will Horowitz's East Village gem, Duck's Eatery. They only serve their brisket on Tuesdays, so call ahead if you want to try it any other day. I was lucky enough to be a part of a brisket club that pre-ordered it for a Monday. And it's pure fucking awesomeness. Smokey, flavorful, juicy, like meat candy. Some people prefer the fatty cut, some the lean cut, I loved both cuts. Even their accompanying barbecue sauce was spot on perfection, with just the perfect and most wonderful tang. But don't take my word for it. If you are a fan of brisket, or barbecue, head on down to the Northwest corner of 12th Street, off of First Avenue, and discover a gem of culinary goodness. BBQ is back in NYC with a bang. Some magical meat awaits.
