Another day, another East Village gem. I dine often in the East Village, not only because it's where I live, but because it is home to some of the best restaurants in NYC. I had been wanting to check out the seafood joint Prima, for some time now. I know many of ladies who love grabbing cocktails and snacking on oysters at this spot. I finally made it in recently, and it is a true gem.
Definitely start with a round of oysters, they are fresh and exquisite.
A special of Buttermilk marinated quail over a Moroccan salad of chickpeas, squash, cucumber, mint, and harisa, was outstanding. A wonderful, juicy bird, with great flavor. Quail perfection.
Main courses at Prima are limited to 6 types of fish, and your choice of 5 sauces to accompany the fish (also a steak, burger, and fish sandwich are offered). I had a perfectly cooked piece of salmon, that was absolutely delicious. It really didn't even need any sauce at all.
The owners of Prima also own the great Avenue C cocktail lounge Summit Bar, so even though I do not drink much as of late, I would bet the cocktails at Prima are superb too. Grab a drink, nibble on some fabulous bites from the sea, and have a magical night in the East Village. Another gem awaits.
