NYC FOODIE QUICK BITE: FISH MARKET

July 11, 2016 Josh Beckerman

One of the best restaurants in NYC is probably one you never heard of. I know i hadn't until my friend who lives in the Seaport District introduced me to it. It's called Fish Market. If you walk by, it looks just like a dive bar, which it is. But walk inside, grab a seat at one of their wooden tables, and let Mama feed you. Mama is the older woman in the kitchen in the back cooking a hodgepodge of Malaysian, Asian, and American fare. The food here is fabulous. This is a special place. Trust me.

On my first visit we tried some tasty dumplings, an amazing fried rice (a must order) and a spot on chicken curry. You must order Fish Market's Drunken Seafood soup though. The broth is so soothing, with its strong ginger flavor, it would cure any ailment. Truly Magical.

On my second visit I sampled some more American dishes, like fried mac and cheese balls with ranch dressing, fall off the bone Guinness braised ribs (amazing) served with a side of sensational bok choy, a perfect lobster roll, and Ginger Wings. Those wings are a must order, perfectly crispy, with tender and juicy meat, and that subtle ginger flavor. Some of the best wings in town for sure.

I can't stop thinking about how amazing this restaurant really is. It's a true gem. The service is also awesome, don't be surprised if the owners or bartender come around with shots of Jameson for you. Shoot it, and chase it with that seafood soup, and all is right in the world. Fish Market is a special place. Head down to the Seaport from where ever you are, a magical culinary adventure awaits.
