One of the Best restaurants to open this year is in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. It's called Olmsted and you need to go. It's a neighborhood restaurant that makes you feel like a neighbor, wherever you are from. It's what America should be like.
The seasonal, ingredient-driven menu from chef Greg Baxtrom has influences from all over the Globe. I was taken from Japan to Austria to India and back to America with each dish, a trip around the World in my mouth, and I loved every bite.
Also, Olmsted has one of the most amazing and beautiful back gardens I've been too. You can sit out there, have a drink, roast some s'mores, and chat with their two quails that live there. Olmsted is a magical restaurant. A true joy. I can't wait to be back. Yes, magical culinary adventures exist in Brooklyn too.
A snack called "Morgan's Meats" was a duck mousse with honey, that was light, creamy, and fabulous.
Gobi Pakora Cauliflower was a taste of India in Brooklyn, and awesome.
Vietnamese Squid Salad packed a punch with perfect flavors.
From Vietnam we then headed to Japan with Olmsted's Charred Onion Chawanmushi, with bottarga, smoked trout roe, and maitake. Truly Excellent.
Do not skip Olmsted's Carrot Crepe with little neck clams and sunflower. It's pure genius, delicious and beautiful. #yesplease
Another pure genius dish I had the night I dined was tomato schnitzel. #Amazing.
Tempura Fried Scallops with shaved matsutake and picked radish was perfection. #awesomeness
S'mores in the garden is a true dream. And Olmsted is a dream come true in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Magic awaits.
