NYC FOODIE QUICK BITE: CONGEE VILLAGE

I had walked by Congee Village on Allen St. many of times, without walking in. Not sure why I never did, for after a group lunch there recently, I loved every bite. Congee is a rice porridge, and they serve a variety at Congee Village. I've had congee before, and I always find it on the bland side. You really need to add some hot sauce to the bowl. The congee here, with some added hot sauce, is spot on. The menu at Congee Village is quite extensive, and will take you multiple visits to navigate through it. On this visit, salt and pepper squid and whole chicken were absolutely wonderful. I recommend both. So go get your congee on, and then some, at Congee Village. A magical culinary adventure awaits.
