Dropped into the 3-star Betony this past week and had a terrific meal. With top notch service and fabulous fare, I could see why Pete Wells of the NY Times gave it a fantastic review. Betony is a fantastic restaurant, that's why!
I started with a snack called "lobster roll" ($17) with creme fraiche, salt & pepper. A tasty little snack that played with salt on my tastebuds wonderfully.
A hot foie gras appetizer ($28) came with crispy kale, a black garlic crisp, ham hock consommé, and even ham hock inside of the foie gras. It was one of the best foie gras dishes I had ever consumed. Sensational. Memorable. Magical. Fucking Amazing. Bravo.
Roasted chicken ($29) came with chanterelles and black radish. The dish was accompanied by a bowl of the dark meat, farro, dandelion greens, and a quail egg. It was fabulous.
Dessert at Betony cannot be skipped. Chef Becky Isbell is a complete genius, and the dessert I had, a chocolate brownie ($12), was one of the best dishes I've had all year. What was in this brownie dessert? Well, I had to go into the kitchen and ask Chef Isbell herself (and show her a little magic too!) Pecan butter, pecan praline, toasted pecans, coconut panna cotta, coconut sorbet, caramel ice cream, cocoa meringue, chocolate decorate, and fleur de sel. And you know what all these ingredients equal? Pure fucking awesomeness.
General Manager Eamon Rockey and Chef Bryce Shuman have created a truly terrific restaurant. With a great team of chefs and front of the house staff, this is what greatness is all about. I can't wait to eat the entire menu. I'm sure the menu tastes great too.
