Jean-Georges' ABC Kitchen now has a Latin sister next door called ABC Cocina, in the old Pipa space. I had two delicious meals there last week, that were truly enjoyable.
Fluke with green chili dressing, crunchy rice, and herbs, was light and refreshing. A great little kick and crunch of a dish. Found under the "light & bright" section of the menu. It is both.
Shrimp with sizzling garlic and chili oil is delectable. That chili oil perfectly balanced, not overpowering at all. It's not a mindblowing dish, but it does a body good.
Crispy fish tacos, with aioli and cabbage-chili pickle were tasty as can be. Both sweet and spicy, another perfectly balanced dish.
This was my first quick bite at ABC Cocina, their first day being opened. It was a nice quick bite, that ended up becoming a 2-hour magic show, by yours truly, the Foodie Magician, entertaining guests and staff after. This is a magical place. And it's not just because of my magic, but because my second meal, with more of the menu, was truly fabulous too.
The second meal started with complimentary roasted chickpeas, which were out of this world sensational. Addictive as heck. Awesome.
Mezcal cured salmon, with cucumber-yogurt relish and golden potato flakes is found under their "light and bright" section of the menu, and like that fluke, it is both. Deliciousness.
If you are trying to watch your figure like I always am, you may as well order the the cheese fondue with soft and crunchy tortillas. It also comes with mushrooms, asparagus, and the best chorizo I've ever put in my mouth. That chorizo is housemade, sweet, delicious, and amazing. Order this dish. Hit the gym in the morning.
Spring pea empanadas served with a green chili yogurt are scrumptious as can be. It's not totally vegetarian though, for it is cooked with a bit of lard inside, but I ain't mad at that. Delectable.
Maitake mushrooms with goat cheese and fresno pepper vinaigrette is unbelievable. Fabulous flavor. This is one fucking awesome mushroom dish. Order it.
You know what else is fucking amazing at ABC Cocina? The beef tenderloin "burnt ends" and chimichurri sauce. Put one in your mouth and have a culinary orgasm like I did. Trust me, it'll be worth it. Don't worry about the people sitting around you. Just do it, and thank me later. Awesomeness.
Don't skip dessert at ABC Cocina, some more culinary orgasms await. Warm vanilla fritters with Mexican chocolate are bites of joy, just as good as sex, if not better. Salted caramel "impossible" flan is ingenious. I took one bite and almost cried. Just kidding, I did cry. That touch of saltiness blew me away. Fabulosity.
Jean-Georges and his awesome team of chefs Dan Kluger, Ian Coogan, and Melody Lee have put together a truly fabulous restaurant. ABC Kitchen's younger sister is a sure-fire hit. With perfectly executed and delicious latin fare, in a wonderful space, a magical night awaits. Trust me. And who knows, maybe you'll see me entertaining one night.
