Most of the NYC I know leaves the island on the weekends. Many head out East to the Hamptons or Montauk. For those of you who are not familiar with Montauk, the eastern most point of Long Island, it is the more laid back and relaxed version of the Hamptons. As of late, it's becoming more hipper and cooler, and the Hamptons drones are realizing how cool the place is, and populating the place. Many people have found about out the cool spot The Surf Lodge, and their restaurant, helmed by "Top Chef" Sam Talbot. It's an an amazing place for a cocktail with a water view and the sun, as well really great bites. There is live music and DJ's that will set the mood for the evening too.
Mussels in a green curry sauce should not be missed. They are fabulous, with that wonderfully flavored curry. A taste of Thai out East. Order them.
Chef Talbot knows his fish tacos. They are pitch perfect here. Served with a beautiful side of corn on the cob and beans, you need this dish too. Trust me.
The lobster roll here is a fine rendition. The meat is served warm, so if you like it that style, go for it. I prefer the meat cold on my rolls.
Don't expect mindblowing service at this restaurant though. Like Montauk, it is laid-back and carefree. This is a surf town. I'm sure most of the servers are stoned. You might get your dishes after a table that came in after you gets theirs, like we did on my visit. But no worries, it's all in good fun. Just have another cocktail, watch the sun set, and be glad you made it this far east. You'll be back next weekend, I'm sure.
