"Kew Gardens, NY, May 1, 2010 – Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC) is once again set to host “Queens…A Taste of the World.” The annual fundraising effort has come to be one of the most anticipated sampling events in New York City. Hailed as Queens’ largest celebration of culinary diversity, Queens Taste features over 40 restaurants and fine eateries and attracts over 1,000 guests from the New York metro area. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and will be held at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.

Join Queens Borough President Helen M. Marshall and this year’s Taste Team, headed by Taste Masters Dave Lieberman (Food Network) and Anahad O'Connor (New York Times), co-authors of THE TEN THINGS YOU NEED TO EAT, will be awarding top honors to participating restaurants along with support from the rest of the Taste Team including senior editor of Food Arts magazine, Jim Poris , “culinary couple” WCBS “Dining Diaries” radio host Bob Lape and wife and cookbook author Joanna Pruess, & Beverage Media editor Alia Akkam.

Categories include Best Appetizer, Best Entrée, Best Dessert, Best Beverage (non-alcohol/alcohol) and Best Overall Restaurant presentation. This year, the QEDC will also honoring restaurants that have been in business for over 50 years with the Iconic Restaurant Award. Recipients of this award include London Lennie’s seafood restaurant and Mama's of Corona.

The QEDC has also partnered with renowned retailer Macy’s Cellar Chef series to showcasing Queens’ top chefs and restaurants in anticipation of the May 18th event. The week of May 11th, Queens Taste restaurants Deluge, Mulan and Q Thai will host live cooking presentations at the world-famous Cellar at Macy’s Herald Square. for complete schedule.

Participating Queens Taste restaurants include Pavilion Grille, Deluge Restaurant, Papazzio, Austin’s Steak and Ale House, De Mole, Dazies Restaurant, Floresta restaurant and many more. “Queens Taste is a great event for restaurants like us to participate in,” said Kimo Raouf, owner and general manager of Riverview Restaurant and Lounge. “It helps us to reach a dynamic audience of executives and Queens residents while also networking with like-minded Queens business owners.”

Guests in attendance will enjoy live entertainment and experience world cultures while showing their support for QEDC and Queens’ restaurant community. A not-for profit organization, the QEDC provides vital services to the business and entrepreneurial communities of Queens. All proceeds raised will directly support this mission.
