Have you been to the Library at the Public yet? Have you heard about it? Maybe not. It's an Astor-era cocktail lounge hidden upstairs at the Public Theater. And, it's awesome. I walked in recently after 11:30 pm, and found a hidden gem. A great place for a cocktail, and/or a delicious bite. With it's dark lighting, and distressed leather chairs, this the perfect intimate date spot.
Of course, I prefer to eat, than drink. A plate of pickled vegetables ($9) tickled my taste buds with delight.
French Fries ($8) with Malt Vinegar Mayo were pleasurable with any cocktail in hand.
Ruby Red Shrimp Tacos ($12) with Salsa Verde, were tasty as can be.
Crispy Calamari ($14) is enlivened by Shishito Peppers and Chipotle Sauce.
Orecchiette ($17) with Roasted Cauliflower and Pecorino is awesome.
Short Rib Goulash ($26) with Caraway Sour Cream is probably the best goulash I've ever had. Order it.
The renovation of the Public Theater is remarkable. Housed in one building is an entire night of fun. Watch a show at the Public, grab an act at Joe's Pub, then head upstairs and grab a drink and a bite in the Library. It's a one stop shop for a magical date night, for sure.
