When I told the waitress at The Beagle, a cocktail lounge in the East Village, that I was more interested in eating the food than drinking, she frowned upon it. She gave us a little attitude and in fact, she was not "comfortable and inviting" as their website states. That's a shame, because I think the food at The Beagle is great, and it's a great place for a cocktail, or one of their varieties of sherry from an extensive list.
Burrata and Salmon ($15), with dill, mustard, and salmon roe, is like a deconstructed everything bagel with lox and cream cheese. It is awesome.
Roasted Brussels Sprouts ($9) come with bacon, mustard, Bosc Pear, and pickled raisins, and are fabulous.
Chicken & Grits ($12), confit chicken thigh, leeks, creamy grits, and peanuts is an unbelievable dish. I loved this dish. The flavor and texture was spot on delicious.
So if you are seeking cocktails along with tasty bites, The Beagle is great. I just hope you there is a little more positivity no matter what you decide to order.
