One of the Best restaurants to open up this year is called Tuome. It's located on 5th Street between Avenue B and Avenue A, in the East Village, and I recommend you check it out. What you will find is contemporary American fare, with Asian influences. Food with great flavor and textures. Well balanced, perfectly executed, delicious tastes. This food comes to us from chef Thomas Chen, a chef who has worked at Eleven Madison Park and Commerce. He reminds me of David Chang. When I first tried Chang's food, I knew he was a genius. Chen is a culinary genius.
Watermelon comes with ricotta, crispy faro, and chrysanthemum. Divine.
Chicken liver, is served in mousse form with NY maple, and milk bread. Smooth, creamy, perfection.
Egg is deviled, crispy, and topped with chili. Unique, and delicious. #eggcelent
Octopus comes with pork xo, brown butter, and fingerling potato. It's octopus like you've never had before, and it's wonderful!
If you want to share something special, you should splurge on the Pig Out for two ($54). Berkshire pork, spicy peanut noodle, and condiments. Those house made condiments are awesome, as is this dish. It's fun, it's delicious, it's great. #magical
If you're a fan of short rib like I am, then you'll love the short rib at Tuome. Served with sweet potato and shishito, it's like butter. Tender, beautiful, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. #yesplease.
Do not skip the sides at Tuome, they are exceptional. In fact, you can come to Tuome and just feast on the sides, they are that good. Mind-blowing. Corn comes with kaffir lime, curry, and creme fraiche. #amazing. Rice is wrapped with kale, lap cheong, and duck fat. Um, #fuckingawesome.
I love it when I discover gems. Tuome is more than a gem though- it's one of the best new restaurants to open in 2014. It just opened recently, and has the potential to do even greater things. See you there soon for a truly magical culinary adventure!
