NYC FOODIE QUICK BITE: UPSTATE CRAFT BEER & OYSTER BAR

March 24, 2014 Josh Beckerman

I had been wanting to check out Upstate for some time now, and finally made it last week. And after my first time, I must tell you that this place is absolutely wonderful. Beyond a gem. With it's laid back and festive atmosphere, and spot on oysters and seafood dishes, I think it's one of NYC's greatest places.

The oyster selection is extensive and fabulous. I had my waitress choose her favorites, and it was pure bliss.

I never pass up a dish with sea urchin. The sea urchin here, is served with a raw egg, wild salmon roe, onions, butternut squash puree, and toasted points. You mix up the ingredients and spread it on the toasted points and have yourself an awesome little bite. (I'm such a fan of sea urchin, I don't need anything else to accompany it really.) This made me think of a bagel and lox, but a whole other level. Hollaaaa.

A scallop special came with brown rice risotto and mushrooms. It was pure perfection and pure awesomeness. Heaven.

The "house" favorite fettucine with clams should not be missed. It's fucking amazing. The best presentation i have ever seen, and then tasted. Order it.

No need to order dessert at Upstate, for they send you out some complimentary whiskey bread to your table. This happens to be the perfect little ending to this perfect little restaurant, in our perfect little town.

Grab a beer, grab a wine, grab some oysters, grab some fettuccine with clams. Sit back, relax, and enjoy life. A magical night awaits.
