From the team behind the great Italian joints Dell'anima and L'Artusi, now comes L'Apicio, their largest joint, located on East 1st Street in the East Village. And, it's great. Chef Gabe Thompson and Beverage Director Joe Campanale are the perfect tag team with a truly magical touch.
A salad of Escarole, pecorino-buttermilk dressing, almonds, and cucumber ($13) was delicious.
Charred Octopus, with fregola, pepperoni, and lemon, was absolutely awesome. Octopus Perfection.
Pappardelle with oxtail ragu ($18) was sensational.
Grilled Arctic Char ($26), with pickled shallots, and hen-of-the-woods, was fabulous.
A side of Broccoli Rabe ($8) with garlic, chilies, sausage pesto, tickled my taste buds with delight.
I might have a done a little magic in the kitchen this night, and was pleasantly rewarded with the Agnolotti with sweetbreads, mascarpone, and condimento. Oh, and it was orgasmic. Magical!
For dessert, Vanilla Semifreddo ($9), warm apple compote, spice cake, apple cider sorbet, and oatmeal streusel is unbefuckinglievable. Ingenious. Awesome. Order it.
So for great wine and great Italian fare in the East Village, L'Apicio hits the spot. Another winner is born. Culinary magic awaits.
